My intent as a teacher is to pass on what I’ve been taught – both technically and creatively. The most important thing I’ve learned so far is the significance in taking responsibility for one’s own power and creativity. Through both observation and study I’ve learned that many adults let others be in charge of their lives. I believe this is a learned program, not instinctual. If we learn as children that we create the lives we want, and are given the support and encouragement to dream big, maybe more of us would!
As children, we use our imaginations constantly. As we age and learn analytical thought we often allow our thoughts to overrun our imagination and stifle our intuition. I aim to pass on these concepts to my students in all subjects and give them tools to explore them. It definitely improves performance, not only onstage, but also in music theory, ear training and sight-singing! Eventually, I want to create a workshop for people of all ages to increase their awareness of their own intuition and give them tools to harness it in their lives. The program will utilize acting exercises, creative movement, improvisatory singing, and imagination exercises to encourage people to hear the voices and/or see the pictures in their minds, and express openly.
